What's the Difference Between Dry Brushing & Using a Gua Sha Stone?

Let me first by stating what each are:

Dry brushing is great for stimulation. Dry brushing is known for stimulating the Lymph System as well as the skin. This is great for circulation and helping to move fluid and flush toxins. If you have trouble sweating, dry brushing is a great technique that can help!

Gua Sha Stone- this is less likely known. A Gua Sha Stone is essentially a stone (many different variations, there are some plastic versions available) that is used with light to firm pressure in a scraping motion on the body. Gua Sha massage is generally used for chronic pain because it is known to help reduce inflammation and stagnation.

As you can see, there are benefits to both! And I do believe both are effective.

I think dry brushing before exercising and/or sauna time is super beneficial! This helps to get your Lymph moving, thus creating a nice sweat flow faster - bye bye toxins!

I think using a Gua Sha stone is helpful for isolated areas, such as neck or knee pain, for example. It is also beneficial on the face and neck before applying moisturizer, such as in the morning, at night before bed, or after a shower.

Generally speaking, if you need help sweating, reducing your toxic load, have cellulite and fluid accumulation, etc, then try dry brushing 3x/week.

If you suffer from chronic pain, inflammation, muscle fatigue, etc, then try using a Gua Sha stone.

Again- both are effective! Feel free to try both and find what works best for you and your body!

The use of oils for both have been found to be super effective! I like using Zendocrine, DDR Prime, and Lemongrass essential oil all over my body before dry brushing. I like to dry brush before getting in the sauna or before a warm shower. This technique is super effective at getting my Lymph System to flow!

Using Aromatouch or Jasmine essential oil is super effective when using a Gua Sha Stone. I like doing this on a freshly washed face and neck. If using on the body, I like to first use a hot washcloth held on the area I will be massaging, and then using a circular motion to wipe clean. Then I apply the oils (AromaTouch or Jasmine) before using my Gua Sha Stone. I love the youthfulness this gives my skin! Once finished with the massage strokes, I then apply moisturizer, gently rubbing it in upward circular motions.

One thing to note for both dry brushing and Gua Sha is to use motions that create flow towards the heart. This helps to ensure any release gets flushed out.

When choosing things for your body, it is imperative to choose quality. For example, I choose Wilding because their Aura Stone, unlike other Gua Sha stones, is composed of Bian stone, an amalgamate of 40+ minerals known for their healing properties!
